Welcome to the Future of Security

Congratulations on taking the first step towards true financial independence. You are about to set up your Trezor hardware wallet, the gold standard for protecting cryptocurrencies and digital assets.

Secure

Why You Made the Right Choice

In the rapidly evolving world of cryptocurrency, security is not just a feature—it is a necessity. By choosing a Trezor hardware wallet, you have decided to take full ownership of your digital assets. Unlike exchanges or software wallets where your private keys are stored online (and thus vulnerable to hacks), Trezor keeps your keys offline, in "cold storage."

This means that even if your computer is compromised by malware, your funds remain safe because the private keys never leave the device. Every transaction must be physically confirmed on the Trezor device itself, creating an impenetrable barrier between your assets and potential attackers. Whether you are a seasoned investor or just starting your journey into Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, understanding the mechanics of your new device is crucial for maintaining robust security hygiene.

This guide is designed to walk you through every step of the process, from unboxing to your first transaction. We have crafted this experience to be intuitive, educational, and transparent, ensuring you feel confident managing your wealth.

Setting Up Your Trezor

Follow these five essential steps to initialize your device and secure your assets.

1. Unbox & Inspect

Before you plug anything in, carefully inspect the packaging. Your Trezor device should arrive in a tamper-evident box. Check the holographic seal on the USB port (for Trezor Model One) or the packaging seals (for Trezor Model T and Safe 3). If the seal appears broken, tampered with, or missing, do not use the device. Contact our support team immediately for a replacement. This physical security check is your first line of defense against supply chain attacks.

2. Install Trezor Suite

Go to trezor.io/trezor-suite and download the official desktop application for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Trezor Suite is the interface you will use to manage your portfolio. Avoid using web-based wallets whenever possible to minimize phishing risks. Always verify you are on the official domain before downloading any software. Once installed, open the application and connect your Trezor device using the provided USB cable.

3. Install Firmware

Your Trezor device ships without firmware installed. This is a security feature that ensures the software running on your device is the latest, authentic version from SatoshiLabs. Trezor Suite will detect your device and prompt you to install the firmware. Follow the on-screen instructions. During this process, the device will verify the cryptographic signature of the firmware to ensure it hasn't been modified by a malicious third party.

4. Create Wallet & Backup

This is the most critical step. You will generate a new wallet. The device will display a sequence of words—your Recovery Seed. This is usually 12 or 24 words long. You must write these words down, in the exact order, on the provided recovery seed cards. Never store this seed digitally.Do not take a photo, do not type it into a computer, and do not save it to the cloud. If your device is lost or damaged, this physical backup is the only way to recover your funds.

5. Set a PIN

Finally, you will set a PIN code. This PIN protects your device from unauthorized physical access. Choose a strong, unique PIN that you can remember. The PIN entry mechanism on Trezor is designed to prevent keyloggers from stealing your code, as the matrix layout on the screen changes every time you connect. Once your PIN is set, your device is ready to use!

Uncompromising Security

Offline Storage

Your private keys are generated and stored inside the device, completely isolated from the internet. Hackers cannot touch what they cannot reach.

Open Source

We believe in transparency. Our hardware and software designs are open source, allowing security experts worldwide to audit and verify our code.

Trusted Display

What you see is what you sign. The device display shows the exact transaction details, ensuring no malware can trick you into sending funds to the wrong address.

Passphrase Protection

For advanced users, the Passphrase feature acts as a "25th seed word," creating a hidden wallet that is invisible even if someone finds your recovery seed.
